Substance Use & Addictions

Supporting families and individuals dealing with the impact of substance use or addictions

The Substance Use & Addictions Program offers counselling and support services for families and individuals – both youth and adults – who are dealing with the impact of substance use or addictions in their life.

The program includes the following two options:

Counselling and outreach services for children and youth impacted by substance use or addictions.

The Youth Outreach worker provides individual support during or after school hours for youth who are going through a difficult time. The Youth Outreach worker can also mediate between the youth and his/her/their parents when needed, either in the school setting or in the family home. Referrals can be made to other youth counselling and support services at the Golden Family Center or other local service providers

The Golden Family Center offers outreach programs for youth through Golden Secondary School (GSS) and Golden Alternate School (GAS). The goal of the Youth Outreach program is to support students who are affected by their own or a family member’s substance abuse.

The program also aims to bring about a decrease in incidents of substance abuse among youth overall by raising awareness.

Counselling and supportive services for adults who are impacted by substance use or addictions.

The Golden Family Center provides addictions counselling and support to individuals and families who are directly or indirectly affected by drug and alcohol use.

To support the recovery process, different types of assessment and testing materials are used to get a better understanding of the drug or alcohol use. Work is done both with individuals and with groups in a safe and judgement–free setting.

When necessary, referrals are made to detox facilities or to residential treatment centers. We work together with the local hospital and medical clinic if necessary to get your referral completed.
