The Golden Early Years Centre is a warm, inviting, inclusive place for children and families to learn and grow together.

Come in for free coffee, comfy couches and lots of toys. We have a big washroom with a change table.

We offer scheduled programs, unscheduled drop-in time, pamphlets, posters, calendars and a library of other printed materials and resources. The toy lending library and CCRR are right next door.

Ages & Stages Questionnaire clinics are offered on the last Thursday of every month from 10-12pm, to provide parents with current information and age-appropriate information on their child’s developmental milestones.

What is Drop-In Counselling

• A place for individual adults to come when you need someone to talk to.
• A professional counsellor will listen to you and work with you to create a plan with next steps to begin the change you are looking for.
• This service is free and no appointment is needed.
• A counselling session is about 1.5 hours long. In many cases, a single visit is all that is needed.
• You will be seen on a first-come, first-seen basis. No appointments are booked in advance. Bring your favourite magazine or book to read while you are waiting or go out and grab a coffee.
• We are not able to provide childminding while you are in your session.
• If the counselling slots are full for the day, we will ask you to return on another day. You can come back to the clinic over time, but you cannot request a specific counsellor.

The Interior Region Family Navigator works with CMHA branches throughout the Interior region. A Family Navigator helps parents and caregivers navigate the mental health/substance use system and helps parents and caregivers access community supports for their family.

The Family Navigator will reply to your message within 48 hours and, if appropriate, follow up with a caregivers assessment in person or via Skype. If you live in a rural area and/or do not have regular access to a computer, you can click here and download an online caregiver’s assessment and submit the form by email or fax.

The Child and Youth with Special Needs program (CYSN) in Golden can help you get connected with Axis in Cranbrook or you can call the program in Cranbrook yourself.

The Interior Health Children’s Assessment Network (IHCAN) provides assessment and diagnosis for children and youth living in the Interior Health region who demonstrate significant impairment in a number of domains of functioning.

Referrals through a pediatrician or through a psychiatrist or other medical specialist.

Food Hamper Pick-Up days are: Mondays 4:00 – 6:00 pm and  Wednesdays 9:30 am – 12:30 pm (Closed on Holiday Mondays)

First Visit to the Food Bank…  Register on any Wednesday or Monday during our hamper distribution hours.

We will need information about your residency here in Golden, employment status and number of people in your household.  We will also require identification for EACH member of your household.  Please be sure to bring these things with you on your first visit to the Golden Food Bank.

You don’t need to apply. Your children are eligible if:

• Your family receives Medical Services Plan (MSP) Regular Premium Assistance
• They are under 19 years old

To maintain Regular Premium Assistance and Healthy Kids eligibility, you must:

• File your taxes each year with Canada Revenue Agency
• Update your MSP account if you have any changes in your family (adding or removing a spouse or child)

Friends of Children  – free and confidential service assisting Northern BC and East Kootenay families travelling to access medical treatments for their children. Our goal is to relieve emotional and financial strain by assisting with the fuel, accommodation and meal costs associated with these appointments, surgeries and consultations. We may also be able to assist with therapies and specialized equipment related to a child’s medical condition.
